STEM English Honors
STEM English Honors is a non-traditional class in which students work on a common curriculum with other English classes with a twist. STEM English Honors is student-centered, differentiated, hands-on, and links the other STEM classes like glue.

- For example, when we study the Aboriginal Creation Story and look for parallels in other tribal cultures, we incorporate art and Dot Paintings; when we read novels like Anthem, we have a duct tape creation/Engineering activity (which some students use as the foundation for their Science Fair Projects); when we read the Egyptian Creation Story we work with a university website to mummify an animated person and then mummify hot dogs in class.
- Similarly, we learn Crime Scene Photography with two of our short stories and learn to pull latent fingerprints.
- We work with a plethora of materials ranging from The Cat in the Hat (with allegories and research about Peronism) to schizophrenia and the study of diseases with A Beautiful Mind and "House Taken Over" (we also research various diseases and create infographics as a link to Biology).
- When discussing Artificial Intelligence, we are sometimes able to Skype with Beth Revis (author of the Star Wars book Rebel Rising as well as some of the short stories and novels that we read in class).
- We take field trips, whenever feasible, via our English class to the National Museum of the American Indian, the Kennedy Center, trips to see plays, to the Newseum, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and more.
- While the class is flipped-instruction based (reading is completed at home so that projects may be discussed and worked on in class), choice and voice are integral, and students learn to problem-solve and make decisions about and through their own learning.
- Students also work with the local community through the CivicTrek ACPS Service Learning Cohort.
